KNX in Dubai. One home, one system.
KNX is an open standard that lets your home’s lighting, curtains and climate work together. Think of it as a common language for your home.
- Open, Vendor-Neutral Standard
- Lighting, Climate & Shading Control
- Energy Monitoring
- Security Integration
- Multi-Brand Device Support
- Long-Term Serviceability
Your home’s systems. Working as a team.
A wall switch, a sensor or a screen sends a command. The connected devices respond together, according to the settings designed for your home.
KNX-certified products from different manufacturers can share that language. Your integrator selects and configures them as one system.
You’re settling in for the evening.
Press one button. The room adjusts around you.
- Lights dim Comfortable evening lighting.
- Curtains close Privacy for the evening.
- Climate adjusts Your chosen temperature setting.
Follow a command through your home
Start with the room. Explore the technical details whenever you’re curious.
- Lights (KNX dimmer) Receives switching, dimming and scene commands. Controls the electrical load and can report its channel status. Lighting power is supplied separately from the bus.
- Curtains (KNX curtain actuator) Controls motor direction and travel time. Recalls its stored action when a scene is called. Position may be estimated from travel time; precise feedback depends on the hardware.
- Climate (Controller / HVAC gateway) Changes the temperature setpoint or operating mode. Connection to the HVAC system depends on the equipment and gateway. A new setpoint does not change the room temperature instantly.
- Access (Access interface) In this example, an integration module sends a command to the lock. Actual door status requires a separate sensor. The Away scene shows a locking command, not confirmation that the door is closed.
- Audio (Integration gateway) Translates a KNX command into audio system control. Music does not stream over the KNX TP bus. Available actions and IP network requirements depend on the selected gateway.
- Energy (KNX meter / interface) Reports measured power and energy using its own group addresses. It does not participate in these example scenes; dimming its card only indicates that it is not responding to the current command.
- Start with a touch. Press Play. The wall switch creates a message to turn on the living room lights.
- A message in motion. The wall switch sends a telegram onto the shared bus. Devices on this line receive the message addressed to 1/0/1.
- The address matters. The lighting object is linked to group address 1/0/1. The other modules are not configured for this group and do not act on the command.
- The home responds. The lighting module switches on the load. The bus carried the command; the lights receive power through separate electrical wiring.
- Status comes back. The lighting module reports its channel status to 1/1/1. The interface linked to this address updates. This is a separate message.
Educational simulation. Transmission is slowed down; addresses and configuration are illustrative.
How KNX works: three principles
A shared path.
Devices on the same line receive the telegram. Lighting, curtains and climate share a common KNX bus cable.
A matching address.
Only objects linked to the matching group address respond. The others continue their normal operation.
Coordinated actions.
Each module recalls its own stored scene settings. One command creates a coordinated result.
New to KNX?
You don’t need to understand the wiring to enjoy the result.
Is KNX an app?
KNX is the communication standard behind the system. You can use compatible wall switches, touchscreens or an app to control it. The available interface depends on your installation.
Can I still use a normal wall switch?
Yes. A KNX wall control can look and feel like a familiar switch. Your integrator can configure a button to control one light or a whole scene.
Do all the devices have to be the same brand?
No. Compatible KNX-certified products from different manufacturers can work together. Your integrator checks their functions and configures the connections.
What do “bus” and “telegram” mean?
In this wired example, the bus is the shared communication cable. A telegram is a short message sent along it, such as “turn on the living room lights”. Electrical power for the lights and motors uses separate wiring.
